About Evening Shift
April 2013

My work comes into being in the intersection between a critical perspective on the conditions which we create for ourselves – and an interest in the unpredictability of attempting to communicate through visual form. A reoccuring subject matter in my installations and image projects has been different economical and cultural processes of change, and the way they appear on the ground.

In the series Shift and Evening Shift the benevolent employee and working life is the focus of attention. Images of work attire may be seen as attempts to catch a moment where the owner of the garment is off guard, in private space, in a pocket of time.

Evening Shift builds upon images shown at Gallery By The Way in 2007 and Galleri Vedholmen i 2011. The silk screens constitute an elaboration of the series Get Unorganized, which was shown at The National Exhibition of the Visual Arts, Kunstnernes Hus, in 2012.

Jannecke Heien has previously shown installations and video in the exhibitions Drabant (01), Bjørvika (-03), Western Art Mission (-05) and Ibsen while you wait (06). She was educated at Kunst- og designhøyskolen i Bergen.
